Dennis opened the meeting asking for guests and new members. Bill Stoy was
a guest last meeting and became a member. John Long was one of our new
guests this meeting.
Dennis extended his many Thanks to Glenn from all of us for getting the new
Powermatic Club Lathe set up with casters, lights and wiring and delivering
it to the club site. It took Glenn and his helpers a couple of weeks to
prepare the lathe for our club demonstrations. Thanks Glenn.
The Fla. Symposium is just around the corner. Glenn passed out brochure to
anyone interested in learning more about it.
Bill read the Treasurers report.
Dennis spoke to us about the importance of becoming an AAW member if you had
not joined yet. All club members should be a member of AAW. He spoke of the
worth of the beautiful magazine they send out quarterly. The CD's the AAW
send to members with knowledge on turning techniques and other important
information. The AAW can be joined on line and an announcement was added
not to use any "old" AAW applications when joining.
Amos our Vice President announced he had received a grant from AAW as a
member to attend John C. Campbell's School. He encouraged other members to
apply if necessary.
An announcement that Cabinetware on Benjamin Rd in Tampa is having an open
house Friday, October 12th.
Glenn asked the members to bring in a turning so he can give them to Connie,
the lady that allows us to have our meetings in the Town Hall.
Amos announced he will be giving next months demo on platters.
There were no buy/sell announcements.
Nominations for next years officers was motioned.
The nominations are:
Bill Meukel for Treasurer
Pat Hess for Vice President
Dennis Perez for President
Amos Carreiro for Secretary
Dennis asked for any more nominations and everyone agreed with the above
mentioned. He asked for a vote. All voted for the above mentioned as the
officers for the 2008 TCWT Club.
We had show and tell with some very nice turnings from our members.
Dennis announced the annual gathering at Glenn's house is going to be Nov.
10 at 1 pm, this year. Bring a dish to pass and Glenn will cook the big
pork. It is a great day for all members to enjoy each other and their
significant others. And of course there will be lots of turning going on.
Dennis spoke of our Christmas Dinner and will go into more detail at the next
meeting.
Al & Sherry Hockenberry gave us a great demonstration on turning that bowl
that you had set away for awhile drying. Al showed us how to re-turn the
bowl and Sherry showed us how to carve and embellished it.
