TRI COUNTY WOODTURNERS

Monthly Meeting

June 2nd, 2010

Rudy opened the meeting at 7:05.

There were several items on the Show & Tell table; listed below are some of the items discussed:

§         Jim Smith brought in two vases – one is Florida Rosewood with a tube sponge finial.  The second was a piece of Norfolk Island Pine with Honey Locust thorns.

§         Al Selke made some beautiful sewing bobbin cases from several different species of woods.

§         One of the guests at the meeting brought in a bowl made from Manzanita Root Burl – it had beautiful figuring.

§         Phillip brought in a nice bowl made from a piece of Citrus.  It had a lovely yellow hue.

§         Kurt Allison made a nice Paduk box, and a Cedar bowl.

§         Rudy brought in a nice vase made from Boxelder.  Rudy mentioned a contact for wood in Georgia and he will be providing the information to put on the Web site.

Thanks to all who participate in the Show & Tell. It is nice to see all of the work and incredible ideas our club members bring to life.

There were 62 people in attendance at this meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:

Sandra identified the spending and the income for the last month, and the current balance is $4700.52.  The report is always available on the back table for review.

Old Business:

Seven members showed up to the hands on session at Craft Supply. They made the Ball-in-a-ball, made famous by Al Hockenbery.

Rudy took a poll to see if there would be interest in holding these types of sessions more often.  Several people put up their hands that they would be interested in attending, and would pay between $20 - $30 oper session.  If the sessions are held at the school, the cost is $300, so there would have to be ten members signed up to make it worthwhile.

Rudy passed out the Anchorseal and band saw blades.

Bob Varner made DVD’s of the demonstrator’s from the Symposium sessions.  The DVD’s are available to rent from Carroll Robbins.

New Business:

Rudy will be displaying some of his work Friday, June 4th, 2010 at the Tampa Museum of Art from 7:00 – 10:30 pm.

Rudy spoke about the suggestion to help the club president with expenses to go to the symposium. Next month the members can vote on this suggestion.

Buy and Sell:

Don Doyle sells Rubber Chuckies for peppermills and the Ball-in-ball and cones. He donates a portion of what he sells to the club.  He donated $8.00 to the club at this meeting. Thank you, Don!

Raffle

The raffle brought in $83.00.

Demonstration:

John Benton demonstrated how to make chip and dip platters.

The meeting ended at 8:45 pm.
