TRI COUNTY WOODTURNERS

Monthly Meeting

July 7, 2010

Rudy brought meeting to order at 7:05 pm.

53 people in attendance.

Welcome – Guests (Mike Webster, Mary and Kirk Moss, and Beverly Jones were among the guests)

Rudy made several comments and announcements that are described below:

Don Watson sends his regards and his regrets for not being able to attend the meetings – work gets in the way sometimes.

Rudy attended the National Symposium and it was moved (Glenn P.) and seconded (Tim G.) that the President be given $150 to offset some of the costs for attending the National Symposium.   This will be allowed each year.  The motion carried.

Rudy brought back a Symposium Book with excellent information.  It will be kept as a club resource and is available for the members.

There was an extended discussion of our video equipment and the need to replace much of it.  Denis Perez made a motion (and it was seconded) that $1,000 be available to Carl to purchase what we need (e.g., projector, camera, switch, tripod, DVR) for the club.  The motion carried.

Adam Bugan is in the hospital – we are keeping him in our prayers.

There was interest expressed in having a demonstration on photographing your work.  This might be a separate demo or part of another demo.

Rudy also showed a Galbert Caliper (available at the Sanding Glove) and some aluminum sleeves for use with PVC pipe to make tool handles.  Rudy demonstrated the Caliper.

Larry Hasiak provided some comments on the AAW dispute over the termination of Executive Director Mary Lacer.

Rudy showed us all a copy of Food Network Magazine that had a picture of Jim Smith’s peppermill.  Congratulations Jim!

Minutes from Last Meeting – In notebook at Sandra’s table for all to review.  Treasurer’s Report and Meeting Minutes will always be available for review during the meetings.

Treasurer’s Report – Sandra – Current balance is $4,082.26.  Sandra identified the spending and the income for the last month.  More detail can be found in the report itself.

Raffle –  Several items were awarded during the raffle.  Don Doyle donated several hundred dollars worth of abrasives for club members (Thanks Don!!).

Show & Tell – Several members brought items to display and discuss.

Buy and Sell --    Rudy still has some AnchorSeal available at $13/gallon

Rudy also has some bandsaw blades for 105 inch and 93 ˝ inch band saws.

Rockwell Unisaw is available for $500.

                                Harbor Freight Lathe – free!!

Demonstration

We had a two part demonstration.  First Rudy demonstrated the Galbert Caliper.  The caliper allows real-time measuring of spindles as you turn them.  The main demonstration was provided by Glenn Ploeckelmann who demonstrated his method of making birdhouse ornaments.  He provided suggestions on woods, bits and special ways to cut the small dowels (dog toenail clippers!).  He showed us how to do the top and bottom and to use special jigs.  Both demos were very well done, fun and educational.

Meeting Ended at 8:45 pm
